Amidst the tragic situation in New Zealand last Friday, some Muslims seem to have found a way to express their anger . Unfortunately the manner in which some of them chose to express their frustration was not only wrong but unislamic. Painting all Christians with the same brush reflects an ignorance of Islam. Bashing Jews and wrongly equating the actions of the Israeli government with Judaism is also generalizing and wrongly slandering almost 15 million Jews. Assuming everyone is the same is pure ignorance, this ignorance is what leads to bigotry, bigotry is what leads to fanaticism and fanaticism is what leads to Terrorism, yes you heard it right, Terrorism.
Angered and frustrated as you are, try to maintain your composure and only say what is right. While the comment section may show how some islamophobes rejoice the news of the fallen people, there are many Jews and Christians who condemn the actions of this terrorist act. Just like us Muslims who condemn the actions of Jihadist terrorist groups, it is naive to generalize all westerners based on the situation in New Zealand.
So before you rush to misquote the Quran about how we should not trust disbelievers (and I know which verses people use, misuse and abuse to satisfy their ignorance.)
I will leave you with these verses:
First thing first, do not forget that when Muslims were oppressed in Mecca, the prophet Muhammed sent them to a Christian King ruling a Christian nation, telling them they will find a just ruler and he will protect them.
But let’s read these verses from the Quran:
“They are not all the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reflecting and reciting the signs of God during periods of the night and they submit. They believe in God and Accountability; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: These are the reformists! “Quran, 3:113-114
“…and nearest among them in love to the believers will you find those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant” (The Holy Quran 5:82)
“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity” Al-Mumtahah:8.
“O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.”
“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.”(Abu Dawud)[4]
Let me finish this post with this:
“Whoever kills a person who has a truce with the Muslims will never smell the fragrance of Paradise.” (Saheeh Muslim)
